Kell Systems in Networking+

Your humble hosts are at it again, shouting from the rooftops about those infernal Server Rooms and their expensive energy footprints and space-wasting. Here's a quote for you:
"High energy costs, space limitations, economic constraints and building restrictions all contribute to putting the spotlight on the ServerRoom or DataCentre. Despite virtualisation shrinking the physical size of the hardware, there seems no way to escape the need to build and maintain IT dedicated spaces. Until now..."
You can guess what comes next.

Business Management USA
Kell Systems has had an article published in Business Management magazine in the USA which highlights the wastefulness of Server Rooms versus the green efficiency of Kell Cabinets. Here's a quote from the article and a link to it. Enjoy:
"Another widely held belief is that servers have to be located in a dedicated computer room. This is a fallacy as servers are in fact designed to be placed in the ambient temperatures contained within an open office environment. The by-products of noise and heat generated by computer equipment, combined with security, however, has until now necessitated the requirement for a computer room."

Kell donates to groundbreaking RNLI community project.
Hull based IT innovators Fibrestream bring Kell Systems onboard the 'Together We Are The Network' Charity Project for RNLI Humber under the NextGenUs FttH banner. Kell has donated a 12U quiet server cabinet to this fantastic project which is providing high speed internet to the RNLI Humber premises.
According to the Yorkshire Post's article on the subject 'Society has woken up to the need for improving rural infrastructure. Super-fast broadband connections can help to transform the way far-flung communities live, work and communicate.
That's why the installation of such a connection for the crew of the Humber lifeboat and their families - who live at the very tip of Spurn Point - is a major step forward. It will give them internet access 50 times faster than that of most domestic customers, which can only be rivalled by networks in Japan and South Korea.
In the long run though, it is about more than just the community of 22 people who live at Britain's only full-time lifeboat station. If similarly small-scale installations can be achieved in other parts of Yorkshire, as claimed by Fibrestream, which is installing the fibre optic cable, then rural life can be improved immeasurably.'
Kell Systems is delighted to be involved and looks forward to the expansion of the scheme in the future.

Another voice says 'use Kell instead of a server room'
Kell Systems was delighted to find itself the subject of a valuable recommendation in Virtualisation - A Beginners Guide, a step-by-step manual for 'transforming your IT infrastructure into a leaner, greener datacenter with expert guidance from a pair of industry professionals'. Here's what authors Danielle Ruest and Nelson Ruest had to say about us:
"Finally, if you need to place new enclosures in locations that do not have datacenters, you should look to new enclosure models. Another vendor, Kell Systems, sells new smart enclosures that fit in any office. These enclosures look just like standard office furniture, but provide cooling, power, and space in a soundproof casing for either blade or rack-mounted servers. This makes a lot of sense if you want to secure your host systems but virtualize all of your workloads, even in remote offices." For more information on Kell Systems, see www.kellsystems.com
Great stuff. The remote office solution they refer to is our Kell PSEi range of Remote Management Quiet Cabinets which allow you to access your IT inside the super quiet cabinet from anywhere, monitoring temperature, humidity, cooling systems and cycling power individually. Take a look if you have a minute.

Game Clay do without a server room with a little help from Kell.

Nice to see Game Clay blogging about their satisfaction in choosing a Kell Systems PSE12 and playing with the dustfilters on the air intakes too. To quote: "Our office does not have a dedicated server room, instead we use a Kell Systems PSE12. It is well soundproofed, thermal controlled, and it also makes a great printer table!" Can't argue with that. See some pics on their Flickr site too. Nice work guys!

Kell Systems proudly donates to RNLI project
Kell Systems has donated a Portable Server Environment (PSE) soundproof cabinet to the NextGenUs “Together We Are The Network” Charity Project which seeks to improve rural communications infrastructure, starting with the installation of a super-fast broadband connection for the RNLI crew of the Humber lifeboat and their families, who live at the very tip of Spurn Point in Hull. Breakthrough Solution Enabling Open Office Deployment of Blade Servers Launched by Kell Systems
Kell Systems Launches BladeVault: the First Complete Solution for Open Office Deployment of Blade Servers
London, UK, March 27, 2008 - Kell Systems, today announced the launch of BladeVault, the first complete solution for deployment of an IBM BladeCenter S™, HP BladeSystem c3000™ or Dell PowerEdge 1955™, along with UPS and related network hardware, directly in the office workspace. BladeVault combines extreme noise reduction with high thermal capacity and is a very real, self-contained alternative to building a computer room. Its office-grade appearance blends seamlessly into any office workspace.
The solution represents a breakthrough for the blade server market, allowing blade manufacturers to better address the small to medium-sized business market with a solution that doesn't demand a costly, dedicated computer room. Whilst these latest SMB-class blade servers are quieter than their Enterprise-class predecessors, many end users consider that they remain too noisy and too intrusive to install directly in the office workplace, without a solution to reduce the noise further.

Money Portal Plc Chooses Kell's Portable Server Environments at a Saving of Around 75% per Site
"The decision to go with Kell was really very easy since there's nothing out there that's comparable," says Scott Greenwood, IT Infrastructure Project Manager, Money Portal Plc. “We needed a true Comms Room replacement that was good looking enough to blend into our working environment, but that was able to cope with the high thermal loads of the servers and switches," he adds. "The hugely effective soundproofing was also crucial, because without it the combined noise of the switches and servers would have rendered the open offices unworkable. We are very happy with the performance of our PSEs and will certainly be using them in the future as we roll out new offices."
